Nobody repeats anything exactly. Words get dropped, added, sharpened. Rival versions end up in the same room and one of them wins. Say one thing, and a century later seven versions of it are alive at once — and they do not get along.

The century runs out and the village keeps whatever it decided your words meant. Not a score — a thing you left behind, and one question: knowing what you know now, what would you have said instead?
